Goals / Objectives

Purpose/Goal:

Promote the utilization of the City of Durham's Small Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (SDBEs) for all City of Durham projects with Balfour Beatty Construction and North Carolina Department of Transportation's Disadvantage Business Enterprises (DBEs) for the Durham Station Transportation Center. This plan is set to increase opportunities for DBE/SDBE participation in the construction industry as prime contractors and subcontractors.

The DBE/SDBE program is an ordinance set by the City of Durham's Equal Opportunity/Equity Assurance Department (EO/EA) and North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to "Promote Equal Business Opportunities in City Contracting". The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise is any company that is worth less than $750,000. The Small Disadvantaged Enterprise is a business that both earns less than $750,000 and is at least 51% owned by one or more Socially and Economically Disadvantaged individuals.

Objectives:

.Increase overall participation of DBE/SDBE on City projects

.Provide equal opportunities to DBE/SDBE's as defined by EO/EA and NCDOT

.Provide concise and efficient measures for monitoring compliances with DBE/SDBE program and goals established by Balfour Beatty Construction

.Establish working partner relationship with small business community through increased communication.

.Collaborate with DBE/SDBE contractors to achieve an equitable distribution of construction contact awards

.Utilize Davis Technical Staffing and Consulting (DTSC) for further assistance in achieving our prescribed DBE/SDBE participation goals.
